1) Q: What is the best time of day to snorkel Molokini Crater?

A: The early morning is the best time to snorkel Molokini.  The trade winds pick up in the afternoon and make it very difficult to access the crater.

2) Q: Do I have to know how to swim in order to snorkel Molokini?

A: It is recommended, but many of the boat companies provide flotation belts, noodles and boogie boards which can help if you are not that comfortable in the water.

3) Q: What is all included?

A: Every snorkel tour has different offerings but almost all provide a continental breakfast, deli or barbecue lunch, an adult beverage after snorkeling, snorkel gear, snorkel lesson and flotation devices.  Check out our Molokini snorkel comparison chart for more details.

4) Q:  What should I bring?

A: Wear your swimsuit, bring a towel, sunscreen and change of clothes in case you want to change after you snorkel.

5) Q: Are my belongings safe on the boat?

A: Yes! We have never heard of a visitor getting there things stolen on a snorkel tour.  We recommend to bring a backpack, or bag that you can fit your belongings. 

6) Q: Where do I check in?

A: Most Molokini snorkel tours leave from Ma’alaea Harbor which is ocean side of the Maui Ocean Center Aquarium.  It is about 20 minutes from the Kihei / Wailea area and 40 minutes from Kaanapali.  Once you book your tickets with us we will email you a ticket with your check in location details.

7) Q: I have young children.  Is it okay for them to go on the boat?

A: Sure!  We would recommend a bigger boat such as Calypso or Pacific Whale Foundation.  Some of the smaller boats do not take children under 5 years of age. 

8) Q: I wear contact lenses. Should I take them out when snorkeling? 

A: It is recommended to take out contact lenses when snorkeling.  Many of the boats do have prescription masks on board.

9) Q: Are there bathrooms on board?

A: All of the tours we offer have a bathroom on board. 

10) Q: How long are the snorkel tours?

A: It depends on the tour company, but average tour time is 5 hours.
